What to Expect With Each Wood Species

Maple Hearth:

Maple is a closed-grain wood and tends to acquire a richer honey color with golden undertones over time.

Oak Hearth:

Oak is a textured open-grain wood that will settle into a golden color with intermittent soft red undertones.

Cherry Hearth:

Cherry is a closed-grain wood that ages into a much darker color with rich reds and golden undertones showing off the natural movement.

Take note of these characteristics as you choose your wood species for the Hearth finish. The natural variation of each wood will impact the look of your stain over time like any other stain finish you may choose.

How to Incorporate Hearth Into Your Kitchen Design

The sheer flexibility, tone and heirloom-like qualities of Hearth make it a complementary color to almost every 2024 color of the year so far. Whether it’s creating a mood room next to Behr’s Cracked Pepper or grounding the design for a study with Dutch Boy’s Ironside, Hearth is a foundational color that will never go out of style.

Use this stain for an entire kitchen remodel to create a relaxing aesthetic or accents like islands and base cabinets. Other ways to add this color to your design are through floating shelves and decorative glass wall cabinets to create focal points.

Tips From a Design Professional

We went to the source for some expert design tips. CliqStudios designer, Shannon Bonewitz had a lot to say about Hearth along with a few recommendations.

“Wood stains are having a big moment. Neutral color palettes exude a visual warmth, and they blend well with other features throughout the house. Our new Hearth stain is a great complement to some of our mushroom-colored paints, such as Irish Crème or Macchiato. By adding brass hardware to stained doors, it adds a touch of elegance and instantly elevates your kitchen.”
