Building an additional dwelling unit (ADU) on your property is no easy feat. CliqStudios customer, Rebecca Harris, decided it was time to create a space on her property that could perfectly accommodate her Mom. Although the square footage was tight, it was important to maximize storage while making it beautiful.

Rebecca talked with us about her goals. “My dream was to build a comfortable in-law unit for my mother on our property. We didn’t have much space to work with, only 400 sq. feet, but we tried to create a light, airy feeling, while getting as much functionality and storage space as possible. We also wanted a nice clean look without breaking the bank. Cliq met those needs! The kitchen has a surprising amount of storage for the small space. Every inch was thought out on how to best use the space. My Mom is an amazing cook, so a great kitchen was a must.”

Her Mother’s kitchen design certainly used every inch of space to increase storage and functionality with tall pantry cabinets, an island, and a built-in washer and dryer. The new kitchen was finished in the Northfield White door style in CliqStudios RTA cabinets.

When asked about her experience with CliqStudios, Rebecca said, “Nicole Stanley, our Design Specialist, went above and beyond in helping us with the design. She was precise, thorough, responsive, and informed on the product. Cliq is a one-stop shop! They have everything from countertops to pulls to different types of cabinets. Nicole was patient in explaining all of my options and was a pleasure to work with.”

“Cliq was extremely easy to work with. Everything from scheduling appointments, emailing Nicole with questions, and general customer service was incredibly polite and helpful.”

Although the square footage is minimal, the space looks incredibly bright and open. The kitchen’s bright white color is complemented by character-filled marble tile backsplash. Gray quartz countertops ground the room while the warm wood flooring invites you in. And vaulted ceilings complete the room with skylights giving it a large and sunny feel.

Rebecca spoke more about what it was like working virtually with her designer, Nicole, and how she was able to help them meet their budget goals.

“We were hoping for a clean, functional look. We couldn’t afford to waste an inch since we had only 400 sq. feet to work with, including a kitchen, living room, bathroom, and bedroom. Designing the kitchen was an interactive process. I sent her photos of a previous kitchen I had designed and loved, and we went from there. Nicole would implement my ideas while making suggestions to improve the design as we went along. If something wasn’t going to work, she let me know and offered solutions.”

“We were working on a tight budget. Nicole helped us save money by suggesting the RTA cabinets. That was a huge help and allowed us to stay within the cost we had allotted for cabinets.”

“The virtual studio was key. It really helped us visualize what the kitchen would look like and helped us make sure that we and our contractors were on the same page.”
Every remodeling project can come with some setbacks. Rebecca said, “The only issue that came up was a few pieces of cabinetry arrived slightly damaged. Cliq responded immediately by getting us replacements and surpassed our expectation on arrival dates. Nicole was so thorough she double-checked all of my contractor's measurements.”

“The project wouldn’t have gone as smoothly as it did without Nicole’s help. We finished up on time, on budget, and with a kitchen that gets “oohs and ahhs” from everyone who has seen it.”

In the end, Rebecca and her Mom, Cindy, were very pleased with how the kitchen was finished. “You can pay a fortune for custom cabinets, or you can call Cliq, design your own custom cabinets, and find that you can get superb quality at a fraction of the price. We would gladly work with Cliq again and have already recommended Cliq’s services to our friends.”
