Jordan and Layne of Zen Contracting had their work cut out for them with this sizeable kitchen remodel. What started out as a kitchen covered in dark wood cabinets and large amounts of stonework ended up transforming into a beautiful and sleek, rustic dream kitchen with timeless style.
CliqStudios designer, Minda Sphatt, worked closely with Zen Contracting on this unique project. Minda mentioned the client wanted a classic all-black cabinet look for the kitchen, so they chose Craftsman lines’ Harrison door style in Carriage Black. Black shaker cabinets created the perfect focal point against the beautiful backdrop of original wood beams and rugged masonry.
Layne spoke about the project scope, and how they got started. “We often have a video call with the (CliqStudios) designer and our clients to walk through the initial design. The call is helpful for our designer to ask detailed questions about what the client wants and to educate the client on what is possible.”
She continued, “Since this remodel included changing out the floors, we weren't restricted by the need to maintain the existing layout. We ended up removing a small second island and creating one larger island with cabinets on the front and back sides to open up the walkways while still maximizing storage.”
During planning and development, Minda shared that, “Incorporating the larger appliance sizes and adding in the smaller stacked cabinets while keeping it symmetrical and pleasing to the eye” was difficult. “Jordan gave me the existing layout and I incorporated their wish list into the new design. They had specific ideas and requirements I made sure to follow.”
Minda ended by saying, “I always enjoy working with Jordan and Layne on their projects! While the kitchen looks simple, the functionality and location of the work areas are quite cohesive in the space while giving you an open feel with all your storage needs.”
Overall, the project was a massive success. With the addition of a beautiful matching pantry with floating wood shelves, Jordan, Layne, and their client were very happy. Layne said, “The final product is beautiful, especially the uppers with glass doors!”
