How do you turn a total rehab into a chic and sophisticated remodel? Anything is possible with some designer collaboration, great cabinets, and the perfect color scheme. Pro Justin Bernatz of Bernatz Construction came to CliqStudios needing a total kitchen renovation for a rental property. Turning his kitchen into a renter’s dream would take some work, but he and his designer, Shannon Bonewitz, certainly made the most of this opportunity.
Collaboration & the Drawing Board
At the outset, this new kitchen needed more storage space, an effective cabinet layout, and some personality on a budget. Shannon said, “Justin sent me a loose layout for what he was thinking which I elaborated on”, “we collaborated well since he understands the construction aspect and let me give my input”.
The kitchen cabinets were designed in Signature Plus line’s Newport door style in Mist. This finish provided just the right amount of personality with the contrasting bronze cabinet pulls. For a chic and bright look, Justin used a marble look-alike quartz slab backsplash.
Custom Kitchen Features
Some unique aspects of the design turned out to be the built-in wall oven and cooktop location with an eat-in kitchen space right behind it. Underneath the eat-in space is an extra hidden cabinet for more storage. Justin also used floating shelves which created a spacious look while offering another way to store commonly used kitchen items.
Pro Justin said, “My overall needs from CliqStudios were to create a functional design layout based on the concept I shared and quality cabinets that would bring my vision to reality”. He mentioned, “Shannon was able to provide creative solutions in our cabinet placement and options selected, to maximize the space and ensure functionality when the project was completed.”
Overall, this space was a challenge, but well worth it. Justin said, “It was unique space to fill and only an experienced designer would be able to assist in making this come to reality”.
