The Property Brothers & Leslie Jordan Create a Modern and Country Casual Kitchen

We are proud to share that CliqStudios was recently featured in Celebrity IOU on HGTV. In this episode, The Property Brothers worked with the late Leslie Jordan to remodel the home of his good friends, Newell and Rosemary. Although Leslie passed too soon, it was yet another example of how much joy he brought to others' lives. Newell and Rosemary provided support to Leslie over his lifetime, so he wanted to pay them back.

Property Brothers Jonathan and Drew Scott arrived to find a beautiful ranch-style house. Even with age, this home was in great shape and had a lot to offer. Rosemary and Newell needed more of an open-concept with additional storage, but they never thought it was possible. Ultimately, The Property Brothers and Leslie Jordan decided to go with CliqStudios kitchen cabinets to create a modern rustic look.

The Fairfield Timber door style was used to create this modern, country aesthetic. Black hardware, mullion glass doors, modern moldings, and a limestone-esque range hood crafted the rustic country vibe. Additionally, creamy countertops and a slab backsplash with dramatic gold veining pulled in an earthy feel.

Getting Creative With Cabinet Storage Solutions

CliqStudios designer, Kelly McKenzie, spoke about what it was like working on this kitchen. “I really enjoyed trying to figure out how to provide ample storage solutions and keep it functional, while transforming the space to create a kitchen they would be able to enjoy for years to come”. She said, “The chosen finish was a great way to modernize and update the space while still pulling in the warmth and textures that incorporate the southwest feel the clients really loved.”

Kelly mentioned this kitchen brought a few challenges. “We had to try and figure out how to enclose the refrigerator and keep some storage in this area since we couldn’t move that appliance. I think we did a good job tying it in with the cabinetry by using decorative door panels on the refrigerator return. Adding in the stacked spice pull-outs was a nice feature which provided additional pull-out pantry storage in a tight spot.”

Providing an open-concept kitchen meant taking out a wall that divided the kitchen from the living room. Once this wall was removed, there was more capacity to entertain while they gained an eat-in kitchen. The wall removal came with less storage, so creativity to gain back storage was crucial.

“Creating the tower on the peninsula was a nice way to offer more storage since we did loose space by partially removing the wall for the peninsula into the living area. It’s a fun way to house small appliances, cookbooks, and other items that may need to be on display without having the counter space cluttered.”

Revealing the Home's Personality

Overall, Newell and Rosemary were thrilled with the final design. Touches of rust red and faux wood beams finished the space off beautifully, giving them the home they always wanted. The Property Brothers and Leslie Jordan along with CliqStudios designer Kelly pulled together an amazing space.

In closing, Kelly expressed how excited and proud she was to work with everyone and that she’s followed the Property Brothers on HGTV for some time. “I was very nervous but excited to be a part of it! It was so awesome to see it play out from beginning to end and see the result aired on national TV. I know it’s something that I do every day, but I love seeing it come to life and being able to say, ‘Look what we did!’. I am proud of how it came together.”
