Kitchen Design Story
These homeowners came to CliqStudios with a pretty well-established vision of their new kitchen. Thinking that they knew exactly what they needed, they were expecting the CliqStudios design process to be a bit of a formality. However, when CliqStudios designer Morgan saw their planned layout, she immediately started noticing a few problem areas.
Originally, the kitchen was to have an island set at an odd angle to the rest of the room, which was essentially one long rectangle. Morgan was concerned that having one large element so out of step with the rest of the layout and room itself would cause the room to feel awkward and uninviting. She showed them how having the island lined with all the other elements created a more cohesive design.
Another element that seemed unnecessary was a bench seat under the window. The homeowners like to entertain and wanted to make sure to have enough seating. However, without a bench in the way, the island could get extended by just a little bit. This not only gave them all the seating they’d ever need, but now all the seats were at the same level!
As Morgan worked to improve kitchen functionality and refined her clients’ original vision, she also saved them thousands of dollars along the way! Per Morgan’s suggestion, they eliminated several custom “bump-outs” along the back wall as each one would have required extensive cabinet customization. She also showed them how one wall’s cabinets weren’t really needed as there was already plenty of storage in the tall corner pantry. Morgan also reduced the size of the wine bar/hutch, making it fit much better into the overall design.
Although this kitchen achieves a very custom look overall, it surprisingly does NOT include any custom quoted cabinetry. One unusual feature are the double ovens which are raised much higher than traditional designs because everyone in this family is over six feet tall! Morgan was able to use CliqStudios standard Wall Refrigerator Cabinets, Fillers, and Refrigerator Return Panels to create this “customized” piece with no “customization!”
