Kitchen of the Week – Fayetteville, NY
Vanessa H. Dayton Painted White & Navy Fayetteville, NY
Kitchen Design Story
This CliqStudios client came into the process knowing some of the broad stokes of her kitchen renovation, but needed an expert to help fill in the details. Two walls were to be removed to open up the space, replaced with an angular peninsula added to add informal seating. With a new window being added as well, appliance placement had yet to be fully determined.
It is crucial for CliqStudios designers to know the “technical” details of your kitchen — the exact shape, dimensions, locations of plumbing, etc — as this ensures correct, tight-fitting placement of cabinetry. In addition to providing that critical information, this client had also gathered several “inspiration photos” in preparation for working with CliqStudios. These types of images can help to communicate the “look & feel” you want to achieve, and tells designers which cabinet styles and colors will compliment your vision.
CliqStudios designers are experts at bringing their clients’ visions into focus, and Vanessa is no exception.
After seeing this client’s “inspiration photos,” she immediately changed her initial design which used all-white cabinets. Many of the photos the client showed Vanessa included a drawer handles and door pulls in a very unusual “champagne bronze” finish. Although that kind of hardware works very well with our classic Painted White finish, it really pops against our new Painted Navy finished cabinets.
The final result was a crisp, clean space that felt airy, and made full use of natural light streaming in through the new, larger window being added. This open feeling is further helped by only having a few wall cabinets with open glass doors; the floating corner shelves will be to be a custom piece made on-site to match the new kitchen floor. CliqStudios’ shaker-style Dayton cabinets – bases Painted Navy with Painted White uppers and pantry – worked perfectly to create a look that isn’t too modern, not too traditional, but a decidedly contemporary space with echos of vintage inspiration.
Vanessa also notes it’s never too early to start working with a designer: Because this client came to CliqStudios as they had just started planning their kitchen remodel, Vanessa was able to suggest a different window size and placement that worked perfectly for this kitchen layout!
