Kitchen Design Story
CliqStudios designer Molly says that this was the type of project that she really enjoys. Not because this was some sort of unusual kitchen or a space which she was able to fully redesign – it wasn’t either actually. This was mostly a “footprint” remodel where the overall shape of the kitchen and placement of the appliances did not change dramatically. What really made designing this kitchen enjoyable were the homeowners.
It may come as a surprise to some, but not everyone is “in to” their renovation, and only show a passing interest in the process. These clients, however, were just the opposite — both highly interested and engaged. With such palpable excitement and infectious positive attitude, each interaction and conference call was looked forward to, as everyone shared new ideas and talked through Molly’s latest design revisions.
The phone calls themselves were also a case study in how to work effectively with a CliqStudios designer. First, both homeowners would be on the line during all phone calls. Although often overlooked, this can play a critical part in making sure that everyone is on the same page. Second, these clients always had ready access to a computer or laptop during phone calls. Molly took advantage of this to do lots of “screen shares.” As she and her clients would talk through ideas and changes to their kitchen layout, Molly would make these updates “on the fly.” Because these homeowners see these changes comes to life via the shared screen, it greatly reduced the “back and forth” of sending revisions and feedback via email, which can easily add days or even weeks to the design process.
Finally, Molly also mentioned that her clients made it a point for her to speak directly with their contractor/installer, which can be a crucial step depending on the complexity of the kitchen design. Molly was able to answer all of the contractor’s technical questions, and even give him a head start on some of the on-site assembly. Never one to brag, Molly sheepishly admits that she may have impressed this seasoned home improvement professional with her knowledge of the industry and ability to “talk shop.”
