Prior to planning a remodel, any homeowner should determine when the best time to remodel for their family. Knowing this will give you an idea of how much time you have to plan the remodel, and allow you to mentally and physically prepare for the project.

There are several factors to consider.

Weather: Depending on where you live, the weather can be a huge hindrance to a remodeling project. For example, up here in Minnesota, snow will complicate the remodel, just as will Florida’s rainy season.

Special Family Events: Additionally, if you’re planning a special event at your home, such as a fall birthday or anniversary party, you’ll want to leave enough time after competition to work out any kinks in your new kitchen. Having a non-functioning, still-in-construction kitchen when multiple family members need to stay over is no fun for anyone. Plan to have your remodel complete as least two months prior to your event.

Family Schedule: Lastly, and actually most importantly, you should consider your family schedule. It’s best to undertake a remodel when you are the least busy. This way you’ll be mentally composed and able to give your full attention to the project and any complications that arise.
