CliqStudios Cabinets – Great Company with Which to Deal!

Like many reviews on the CliqStudios website, I was apprehensive about making a sizable purchase with an online retailer who I did not know nor had ever heard of. As it turns out, however, my fears were completely unfounded. This company is absolutely excellent, from my designer, Amy, to the manufacturing facility, and to Sarah in customer service, you will be hard pressed to find a more customer-centric company. And the quality of the cabinets, doors and drawers is as advertised: one half inch plywood, dovetail construction drawers with automatic close, easy to adjust cabinet doors, and nicely finished cabinet and drawer interiors.

The process began with my being assigned Amy Rus of the design team (I highly recommend asking for Amy R. if/when you contact the company). I posted a video online so she could see the terrible kitchen I was dealing with replete with kitchen cabinet boxes that had been painted black, and doors and drawer fronts that were painted white (ugh) and a kitchen layout that was something out of the ‘80s. Amy assured me that there was nothing to worry about and that she could/would design a completely updated kitchen in whatever motif I desired (I wanted to go contemporary), and that’s exactly what she did.

The design process from start to finish including measurements, initial layout, two rounds of rework and one final set of confirmatory measurements took approximately 2 months. However, in addition to kitchen cabinets, I also added wet bar cabinetry, a laundry room where Amy designed cabinets for a built-in washer and dryer plus laundry work station, hall and master bedroom linen closets, vanities for both the master and guest baths, and a media wall in the family room where Amy provided sliding shelves for all of the home theater components. The challenge with the media wall was that the kitchen was on the other side, so Amy had to customize the cabinetry depths on the kitchen side so that we would have the appropriate amount of space on the family room side for a complete built-in home theater system. And she did it in spades; the final product is absolutely awesome and she was unbelievably positive throughout the whole process!

Fulfillment went off without a hitch. I was told that delivery would be 4 to 6 weeks and my cabinets were delivered at right around the 4 week mark. The only thing I would say to improve the delivery process would have been to have received a bill of lading in advance of delivery. I had not received anything so I had to use the short-hauler’s bill of lading to inventory the delivery. Otherwise, the process was very smooth and I received advanced notifications throughout the process regarding what to expect and when.

My installer then identified where everything was supposed to go. Since I must have had close to 50 boxes of cabinets, drawers, fillers, etc. to match up to the original drawings, the matching of cabinets and locations within rooms took several hours. The installer then went about installing all of the cabinets, door fronts and drawers. Again, this part of the process was pretty straight-forward, so there were minimal hiccups along the way. However, we did have one issue: the doors to several of the cabinets would not close at the top or the bottom since the doors had bowed a bit travelling from the humidity of Indiana to the arid desert conditions of Arizona. Again, however, no problem. I contacted Sarah in customer service (also an absolute delight to work with), forwarded her photos of the affected doors, and received replacement doors within about two weeks, so problem resolved without any hassles or issues.

For the sake of complete disclosure in this review, however, I did find a couple of opportunities for improvement as follows: 1) I received one pantry cabinet that was a slightly different color of white than the rest of the cabinets; I worked with customer service to resolve this discrepancy. In addition, the 36 inch fillers were very close in color to the cabinets but for some reason, the 42 inch fillers were of an inconsistent color of white in three different shades. Initially when they were installed, they looked a bit odd however, with the shadowing in the kitchen, you would be hard pressed to tell the difference. 2) The touch-up paint was a rather brilliant white so I was not able to use it. Instead, I had Dunn Edwards mix a quart of paint for touch-ups. 3) The filler paste was very difficult to work with so my installer bought a can of filler locally and that worked fine. 4) The peg holes for the spice cabinets are drilled too close together front to back to use normal shelf pegs so if you order spice cabinets, ask for the more permanent “clip” pegs that snap onto the shelves; otherwise, when you place something at the front or rear of the spice shelves, the shelves have a tendency to tip over.

In summary, as expressed at the beginning of this review, my experience with CliqStudios overall was very positive. So, if you are considering purchasing cabinets from CliqStudios for your kitchen or for other rooms as well including the laundry room, wet or dry bar, linen closets and/or vanities for your bathrooms, if your experience is anything like mine, you will be very happy you chose this company. The quality of both the product and the people with whom you deal are very high, and from what I have seen, compared to the big box stores, you will be paying considerably less for the same or better cabinets. I do not believe you will be disappointed!
