Efficient Kitchen Design Features Classic Shaker Cabinets

Kitchen Design by Kara Lepley

The kitchen pictured below is an excellent example of efficient kitchen design, one with a layout that preserves the time-tested distances and positions referred to as the kitchen work triangle.

Kara Lepley, a professional kitchen designer with years of experience, laid out this kitchen to provide room for movement without the need to cross traffic lanes while moving between the primary work zones: food preparation, cleanup, cooking and storage.

A good design will not only provide function but beauty and a sense of balance. Here classic white Shaker cabinets are dressed up with mullion glass door cabinets with interior lighting, stacked traditional crown molding to bring the cabinets into vertical scale and create a furniture look, balanced wall cabinet widths at the cooking and cleanup stations, and a center island with furniture-style trim and a butcher block counter with ogee edge – an excellent segue between kitchen and living areas.
