Built-in Pantry Recessed into Wall Saves Space
See how cleverly this carpenter created storage without intruding on the room. A pantry cabinet recessed into the wall presents an eye-catching bit of style and functional storage, sleekly aligned with the wall.
The cabinets chosen, Fairmont Cherry Russet, are the most traditional of styles, inset cabinets with beaded doors. In an inset cabinet, doors and drawer fronts fit inside of the face frame rather than beoing positioned in front of it. This construction, used in the earliest cabinetmaking, requires a high level of craftsmanship if the doors and drawers are to operate easily yet provide a smooth, unbroken line across the cabinet’s front.
The simple beaded detailing in the Fairmont door style is another nod to historical cabinet design and craftsmanship. In the picture below, exposed oiled bronze hinge barrels and simple black bar pulls add subtle decorative notes. Solid cherry, used to build doors and frame, is a traditional cabinetry hardwood, with red and gold coloring that will become richer with years of exposure to light. (As shown below, however, the cherry is finished in a multi-step heat-cured factory process that guarantees years of beauty.)More Photos
