Designing a Transitional Bar Space for Entertaining

bar built of black shaker cabinets including glass-door stacked wall cabinets on stone wallIf only you could run your hand across the Rockford kitchen cabinets door — it’s made out of Birch with a Sable finish. Oh, wait, you can — just order free kitchen cabinet samples from CliqStudios, and it will be delivered right to your doorstep. That’s what the Kansas City homeowner did this year to decide on his new bar area cabinets (pictured left).

Our kitchen designer told me how he thought about the space to help this particular homeowner.“We took 42″ upper cabinets and brought them down to the counter for display areas. We used matching cabinet interiors to create that finished look.”  Those display shelves are indeed a perfect finish match to the exterior cabinets.

He also added crown molding to the tops of the above counter cabinets adding detail and another custom touch to the bar area. The other features of the bar area include a built-in microwave and beverage cooler. The island is filled with storage for dishware and glasses for entertaining.

The best part of this custom bar is the value-added design work that was completed remotely. The homeowner never met his designer in person, yet they completed a custom design with discussions over the phone and specifications via email.
